Evidence-based research confirms that trauma-informed care assists in healing for victims of sexual trauma, gender-based violence and sexual harassment. Crucially, it also minimizes the risk of further harm. In 2019, in a series of op-eds in The Hill Times, Kathleen Finlay urged trauma-informed training and awareness programs for all MPs, senators, and senior staff. In the same year, Kathleen’s recommendations for similar provisions, and the adoption of victim-friendly protocols for the premier’s office and all ministries, boards, commissions and agencies of the Ontario government, were taken to the floor of the Ontario Legislature and presented on Kathleen’s behalf to that body by then-MPP Nathalie Des Rosiers.
